UNESCO World Heritage Sites

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is a specialized agency of the United Nations Established in 1945, its stated purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and the human rights and fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the UN Chart.

As part of its remit, UNESCO endeavour to protects specific sites (such as a forest, mountain range, lake, desert, building, complex, or city) that has been nominated–and confirmed by UNESCO as a world heritage site for the future generations.

Inevitably, these sites are areas of outstanding natural beauty or represent the pinnacle of human achievement within the age that they were conceived and built - and now prove to be some of the most popular tourist attractions across the globe.

Conviently, Brad Templeton has gone to the effort of not only listing all UNESCO world heritage sites, but mapping them all via Google Maps for a birds eye view of some of the world’s most impressive locations. Check out the full list here
