The Enchanted Valley

29/01/2006 - The breakfast is very good. Very similar to an english Breakfast. My business partner Justin would have enjoyed it. It is the fat kind of food he fancies a lot! Today is our last travelling day by car. It’s a bit rainy. Sebastien Schuller’s record “Happiness” will do the trick. It’s melancolic & sad but full of hope. It’s a great album. 20 kilometers out of Cachi, we stop to take some pictures. It’s a nice spot to do like they do in ads for water brands, where you see young, happy and healthy people jumping in the air because the water they drink is so fresh and nice for their body.

On the way to Enchanted Valley and the National Park of Los Cardones, we hear some noise outside. A music show is beeing performed by a group of more than a 100 cockatiels… naaaas! The wildlife is really diverse here. And we haven’t been to the very south, where i’ve heard it’s complete madness!

It’s sunny where we are but just a few kilometers ahead, above the mountains, the sky is threatening rain in a major kinda way.

Los Cardones National Park - About to rain hard

We get on a dirt road and we enter the Enchanted Valley (Valle Encantado). First part is a desert landscape with animals and varied vegetations… second part is more impressive with high green mountains and valleys.

The rest of the journey back to salta is very pretty. 2 hours of driving from around 3500 meters to 1000 towards Salta.
We’re staying at the Prisamata hostel again, where we spend the evening playing ping pong. Our belgian team is good. We beat Italy but struggle with the Argentinian pair of players. Pablo has its very own way of playing. Ping Pong is an art for him. The final between him and me is tense but fairplay. I finally beat him in the second set and we stop there. 1 set all. We’ll stay good friends this way. Really nice fella this Pablo. Hope to see him one day again.
