Back to Buenos Aires
30/01/2006 - Last day in Salta. We’re taking the plane today for Buenos Aires with Aerolineas Argentinas. At 3 PM, a cab takes us to the national airport at 20 minutes drive. There, O Shit! No plane… it was cancelled a few weeks ago but they couldn’t reach us through my mobile phone. They automatically reschuled us to the next one, 4 hours later. No biggie. We’re on holiday, the weather is nice, I still have some pages to read of the book i swapped in Humahuaca. Leave a book and swap it with the one you like. Nice idea.
We get to Buenos aires at 1 in the morning. The cab driver is very cool. We talk about things and girls in Mendoza, how beautiful they are. His wife is from Mendoza. As a gentleman (with a business mind), he gives us his number if we need a transfer to the International airport. I’ve booked a nice B&B in the Palermo Viejo Quarter. It’s the new trendy area for artists, wannabe cool or wannabe seen, europeans with a bit of cash to spend etc. The place is called Bernarda house. It’s an old house refurbished with taste (not mine). 6 rooms with different athmospheres, an old dog sleeping on the staircase, 2 cats. The owners are nice but not extremelly talkative. They keep a distance when they talk to you. Might be due to their social rank. Their cleaning lady tells us with pride that their daughter is friend with the Princess of Holland. Ou la laaaa! The owner is either a painter or likes paintings… they are exposed in the hallway. There is a Magritte one painted on a wooden frame. By the way, the rate is 40 to 50 USD per night, breakfast included. It’s a very hot and humid night in Buenos Aires… there is just a fan. But we’re tired…

I am going to be leaving for Buenos Aires on June 8th and will be travelling alone. Do you have any advice for a solo traveller to Argentina?
