Trevelin & Los Alerces National Park
13/01/2006 - Last day in the Esquel Area. We wake up early to head to Trevelin. Trevelin is quite interesting as you can see traces left by the welsh settlers. We were recommended by the hostel to have cakes and tea, but according to Horacio (the guy we met in Bariloche), it’s a big rip off. We buy some food and drinks, hire mountain bikes and head to Los Alerces National Parks and the Centro Hydroelectrico. 18 kilometers to get to the DAM. 12 Pesos to get in (around 3,5 euros). We refill our bottles at the gate with fresh and pure water straight from the river. Last 5 kilometers are quite tough as we are not prepared for this. But worth it. The Dam is quite impressive. After a break, we get back to Trevelin. Take our Ford Ka and cruise back to Esquel, listenning to my Road Trip playlist (Counting crows, Midnight Oil, The Shins etc.). I prepare a meal with loads of veggies (Manu has got problems with its stomach because its too healthy), talk to a German guy who lives 6 months per year abroad, He says his country doesn’t like him. Looks like there are no jobs for people over 50. He is a bit bitter but very interesting to listen. That’s what makes a trip worth it, it’s the people you meet. Time to go to bed. Tomorrow we’re going to El Bolson, the hippie town. Smoke some weed, drink some Quilmes and eat some empanadas. What else do we need, he!
