I’ve never been too sure on the concept of a destination suddenly becoming an ‘it’ destination for the year, as what defines another destination as a hotspot entirely depends upon where you’re travelling from and the reasons that you are travelling.

Anyway, the following has been kindly compiled by CNN Traveller which picks out a range of hotspots for 2006 by leading travel publications.
