Paris Hotel Cartel Fined

Several of Paris’ most expensive hotels faced hefty fines earlier this week, following an investigation into alegations of hotel room price fixing. The inquiry revealed that Palaces of Paris: the Bristol, Crillon, George V, Meurice, Plaza Athénée, and Ritz hotels had agreed among one another the pricing of their most expensive rooms leading to unnaturally inflated price rooms. Fines ranged between €55,000 to €248,000.

The biggest fine went to the Crillon , whose most expensive suite has entertained guests including Emperor Hirohito and King George V; US presidents Hoover, Roosevelt, Nixon, Clinton and Bush; Elizabeth Taylor and Madonna at a rate of €8,000 per night.
